Star Citizen's Day of the Vara starts tomorrow with a 'creepy contest', plus a Roadmap update and a tech-focused 10 From the Community

Spooky season officially lands in the ‘verse tomorrow. Last night’s This Week in Star Citizen confirms that Day of the Vara 2956 kicks off on Wednesday, October 21, with what RSI calls “a creepy contest, petrifying prizes, and other fearsome finds.” The official account teased it on X with a dark corridor shot and the line “The shadows are stirring in the ‘verse.” The event is also on the RSI Community Hub events calendar for October 21.
What we don’t know yet. RSI hasn’t posted the full Day of the Vara details: no reward list, mission list or contest rules so far. We’ll cover them as soon as RSI posts them. Past years have included things like horror-themed helmets and community scary-story contests, but as The Impound points out, those are history, not a promise that the same unlocks come back this year.
The lore, quickly. In the UEE, Day of the Vara falls on October 27 and mixes public festivals in black and green with private remembrance of the dead. It is named for the exploration ship Vara, which went silent near Hades in 2557 after reporting ruined alien cities, and was never found (The Impound has the full story).
The rest of the week, per RSI:
- Wednesday, October 21: Day of the Vara 2956 begins, and the latest Roadmap Update and Roadmap Roundup go up. That’s the next look at where Alpha 4.11, still tentative for Q4, stands.
- Friday, October 23: The second episode of 10 From the Community goes up on YouTube, this time on technology, with CIG’s Technical Directors answering questions. RSI is already collecting questions for the episode after that, which will be about FPS gameplay, in a Spectrum thread linked from the Comm-Link.
- Also Friday: the weekly RSI Newsletter.
Still running: RSI Discovery Month missions at RSI installations across Stanton (Defense, Transport and Collection), with rewards you keep. The Constellation Rental Offer mission still gives five days in the new Mk V Centaurus. The Twitch Drops for the free Phoenix Insignia Display end October 27: watch four hours of any Drops-enabled Star Citizen stream to get it.
What players are saying. On Spectrum, some backers have been asking what happened to the professions-themed 10 From the Community episode CIG took questions for, and to the promised desync deep dive, Cavalera’s daily roundup notes. Friday’s episode is about tech, not professions.
PPR take: It’s a light week for patches, since live is still Alpha 4.10.2, but Wednesday is a big day: a holiday event and a fresh Roadmap at the same time. If you haven’t finished the Discovery Month collections or watched your four hours for the Phoenix display, now is the time, because the Vara crowds start tomorrow.
