The full game is live. After a week of campaign early access and a few days of DMZ, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launched worldwide on Friday, October 23 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Battle.net, Steam and Xbox on PC) and, for the first time in a long while, Nintendo Switch 2, per the official site and Activision Support. There’s no PS4 or Xbox One version.

The story: North Korea launches a full-scale invasion of the South. A young squad of South Korean soldiers fights on the collapsing front lines while a vengeful Captain Price runs an off-book war of his own. The campaign moves from trench warfare in Korea to close-quarters fights in New York, chases through Paris and SAS night raids in Mumbai.

What’s in the box at launch, according to PlayStation LifeStyle:

  • Multiplayer: 12 new 6v6 maps plus Ground War and Gunfight maps. One map, Kill Block, reshuffles its layout between rounds and has more than 500 configurations.
  • DMZ: the extraction mode returns, with solo or squad runs to recover military tech left behind by the war.
  • Editions: Standard is $69.99. The Vault Edition ($99.99) adds two Operator packs, a Signature Weapon Collection, one season of BlackCell and a DMZ deployment bonus.
  • PS5 note: online multiplayer needs PS Plus and an Activision account, and the game has PS5 Pro enhancements.

What’s next: Activision said in its announcement that Season 1 follows “shortly after” launch, and that from Season 1 Warzone folds in Modern Warfare 4 content and progression. That’s also when Warzone stops working on PS4 and Xbox One.

PPR take: Early access players have loved the campaign, and multiplayer maps and spawns have taken some heat. Launch day is when the servers get the real test, so give it the weekend before you judge the netcode.
