Mortal Online 2's first Era of Refinement patch overhauls parrying and stamina

Mortal Online 2 is in a new phase. In late September, Star Vault announced the Era of Refinement, which drops the long, expansion-sized patch cycles behind updates like Reckoning and Sarducaa. The plan is smaller patches at least once a month, focused on data-driven balance, quality-of-life fixes and small additions to existing systems. Star Vault says this phase will run until at least the end of the year.

On October 6, the studio previewed the first of those patches in Into the Vault #162, and it goes straight at core combat.

Key changes, per Star Vault:

  • Endurance buff: the skill’s stamina regeneration bonus goes from +1% to +5%.
  • No more parry resets: right now a parry only counts if you started blocking within the last 2 seconds, so players keep re-pressing block. The patch removes that limit. Holding a block in a direction now always parries hits from that direction. The upfront stamina cost of starting a block goes away too, replaced by a steady drain for as long as you hold it. Star Vault says the drain is set close to the old effective cost, and the exact values may change after PTR feedback.
  • New skill, Mental Fortitude: a Primary Action Skill that works like Defensive Stance but only reduces magic damage, starting at 0–3 flat and 0–5%.
  • Visible debuffs: effects such as Corrupt, Fulmination, Bleeding, Ignited, Shocked, Drenched and Frost now show visual effects, so you no longer have to read health-bar buff lists.

Star Vault said the patch would reach the PTR on October 14 and linked a player questionnaire for feedback. Unconfirmed: we haven’t seen confirmation that the PTR went up on schedule, and there’s no live release date yet. All of these changes may still be adjusted.

PPR take: Mortal Online 2’s full-loot combat has always been unforgiving, and the 2-second parry refresh was one of its clunkiest parts. Hold-to-parry makes fights depend on reading your opponent instead of spamming a button, and it should really help when you’re outnumbered. If Star Vault actually ships patches monthly, the Era of Refinement could be the best stretch the game has had in a while.
