RuneScape turns 25, and Jagex marked it with its biggest RuneFest yet in Birmingham. The headline: a fourth MMO in the RuneScape franchise.

What Jagex confirmed:

  • A new, as-yet-unnamed RuneScape MMO is in development in Unreal Engine, aimed at a new generation of players. Jagex says it’s still early in development, so don’t expect a release window anytime soon.
  • RuneScape Reignited launches December 2. It’s a fresh start for the original game, with a remastered early journey and Adventure Guide, a fresh economy and new hiscores.
  • Old School RuneScape has its Menaphos expansion on the roadmap, which other coverage puts in 2027.
  • An animated RuneScape adaptation is coming from Charlie White (MoistCr1TiKaL) and LA-based Lyrical Media.

There were also roadmap updates for RuneScape: Dragonwilds.

PPR take: “Built for a new generation” can mean a lot of things. Until there’s footage, treat it as an announcement of intent rather than a game you can judge.
