CIG's behind-the-scenes video of the Squadron 42 October event won't make it out this week

Anyone waiting on that Squadron 42 behind-the-scenes video will have to hang on a little longer.

In this week’s This Week in Star Citizen, CIG wrote: “Later this week, we plan to release a Behind the Scenes video of the Squadron 42 October Event, giving you a peek behind the curtain at how things went.”

By Friday, backers on Spectrum were asking when “later this week” actually was. Community manager Zyloh-CIG answered on the thread that evening, and the reply also shows up on the RSI Dev Tracker:

“Quick note: A few unexpected things came up, so the video won’t be going out this week. We’re looking forward to sharing it with you soon!”

CIG didn’t give a new date or say what came up, so for now it’s simply “soon.”

Why this video matters

The October event was the invite-only Squadron 42 hands-on at CIG’s Manchester studio, October 9–11 (our story). Per CIG’s October 12 This Week in Star Citizen, around 140 community members played Squadron 42 for five hours, plus an extra hour in a story chapter aboard an adrift Xi’an ship. CIG said back then that photos from the weekend were coming soon. For the rest of us who weren’t there, this video is the first official look at how that weekend went.

There’s also the bigger question hanging over it. In the August 27 Letter from the Chairman, Chris Roberts said CIG would make “further announcements about our release plans” during the event “and a specific release date shortly afterwards.” Three weeks on, the Steam page still lists Q2 2027, and no specific date has been announced. Nobody at CIG has tied the video to a date announcement, so don’t read too much into the delay either way.

PPR take: Bummer, but I’d rather they get it right. I’m a sucker for the behind-the-scenes stuff, so I was looking forward to this one. A short slip on a video isn’t a big deal by itself, and I’m not gonna pretend it means anything about the game. What I really want, though, is that “specific release date shortly afterwards” Chris promised back in August. Until that shows up, everything else is just the warm-up. So CIG, if a few unexpected things came up… I hope one of them is a date. 🧐
