Roll out, one last time. A trailer for Transformers: Reactivate, the Splash Damage game canceled in January 2025, was posted on X on October 26 by user @EnderGuyZV2 and shared by the preservation account TFR Archives, IGN reports. It’s the most complete look yet at the game.

What’s in it. The footage moves through New York, the Nevada desert and Cybertron, with bits of shooting, melee and driving, plus final character designs. Optimus Prime, Bumblebee and Ironhide fight an alien enemy called the Legion, and the Autobots end up teaming with the Decepticons. Megatron looks playable, fighting with a gun and a whip-like weapon.

A very different game. Reactivate was revealed at The Game Awards in 2022 as a free-to-play online game for one to four players. A title card at the start of the trailer says that by the end it had been a $70 premium game for about a year and a half, with a full story campaign playable solo or in online co-op, as Cosmic Book News details. The card also says the music in the trailer came out on October 21, 2024, which puts the video at most three months before the cancellation. Since Tencent had pulled out of funding in mid-2024, the archivists think the trailer was a pitch to find a new publisher that didn’t work out.

This isn’t the first leak: gameplay of Bumblebee surfaced a day after the cancellation, as Insider Gaming recalls. TFR Archives says a documentary about the game is in the works.

PPR take: A big-budget Transformers story game where Autobots and Decepticons fight side by side sounds like exactly what fans have wanted since the Cybertron games. Seeing it this far along makes the cancellation sting even more.
