Eight days to go. Pearl Abyss has posted a Features Overview for Crimson Desert Enhanced: Charting the Unknown, the game’s first paid expansion, with a new video and, more usefully, a rundown of what you need to have done before each new feature opens up. The DLC arrives October 29 at 6 p.m. ET (3 p.m. PT, 22:00 UTC), or 7 a.m. October 30 in Korea and Japan. Pearl Abyss says more details will come in patch notes on release day.

Finish the main story first

The most important thing in the overview is the gating. The three new stories, one each for Kliff, Oongka and Damiane, start from the Journal menu only after you finish the main story. The three claimable Greymane Castles and the new Garden of Trials boss rush also need the main questline done. A separate ocean-focused storyline opens earlier, after the main-story quest “Howling Hill.” So if you’ve been putting off the ending, now’s the time.

The ocean is the headline

All three characters can dive and explore underwater ruins, treasure chests, and new creatures and mounts. Diving has no requirements, but staying under uses breath, so gear like a diving suit helps. Once your Greymane Camp is set up at Howling Hill, a questline lets you get your own ship, either by sending comrades on a ship-building dispatch at a port or by buying one from a Fleet Office manager. Then you can sail the Great Ocean of Pywel.

A place to call home

The expansion leans hard into life in Pywel. An upgraded housing system lets you build a house from the ground up, unlocked after the “Luke’s Request” quest in the Grounds of the Sunrise faction line. The castles can be decorated inside and out once you claim them, and a management system lets you rent and run businesses across Pywel, from a restaurant in Vellua to a smithy at Zargan Tankworks.

Romance and a boss rush

Pearl Abyss says deeper bonds with some of Pywel’s inhabitants “may eventually blossom into romance and even marriage,” and friends may visit an upgraded Greymane Camp. For combat players, the Garden of Trials puts you against bosses from your adventure one after another, with special rewards for finishing.

As we covered when Pearl Abyss’s Q3 outlook came out, the PlayStation Store lists the DLC at $24.99.

PPR take: Sailing and diving are the headline, but the castles, businesses, housing and a boss rush make Charting the Unknown look much more like a life-in-Pywel expansion than a quick add-on. That’s a lot of systems for $24.99, if they hold together. The big question is whether the post-game gating keeps newer players away from the best parts on day one. Three new stories and the castles all sit behind the credits, which is fine for veterans but a real hurdle for anyone mid-campaign. The good news is the ocean storyline opens earlier. If you’re still working through the main story, you’ve got just over a week to see the credits.
