Another Crimson Desert hotfix landed today. Pearl Abyss posted the patch notes for version 2.04.08 on November 6 (09:50 UTC), and Steam already has it for PC and Mac. PlayStation is listed as available now too. Xbox, the Epic Games Store and the Mac App Store were still in progress when the notes went up.

The fixes players will feel

Pearl Abyss lists a long set of fixes. A few stand out for Charting the Unknown time:

  • Framerate drops in certain areas were improved. Pearl Abyss says it will keep working on drops in other situations and during certain content.
  • Ship steering. The ship’s wheel would not rotate while you steered. That is fixed.
  • Leviakan. Defeating Leviakan now grants its scale as a reward. On Mac, the game could crash after that fight and block progress. That crash is fixed too.
  • Underwater caves. Character controls could lock up in certain caves, and you could not dive again in others. Both are addressed.
  • Free Construction. Houses could disappear in certain situations. There is also a confirmation prompt now when you delete a room.

The notes also cover pioneering camera freezes, revive spawning under the Drunken Catfish, Phantom Ship encounters in the Sea of Silence, and a pile of smaller housing and combat fixes.

PPR take: Pearl Abyss is still treating Charting the Unknown like a live service patch train, and I respect that. This is one of the largest and most ambitious open world games out there, and the post-launch care is the part that separates a launch dump from a game that might actually last. A ship wheel that does not turn and a boss reward that does not drop are the kind of bugs that kill a session, so seeing both in the same hotfix matters. The framerate line is honest again: improved, not finished. I will take that over silence. Keep cooking, Greymanes.
