Soulframe Open Preludes is live: Digital Extremes drops the invite wall for all PC players

No more invite keys. Digital Extremes opened Soulframe Preludes to every Windows PC player on November 6. The studio calls the milestone Open Preludes: sign up at soulframe.com, claim an Envoy name, download the official launcher, and play for free. The in-game news post puts it plainly - “no more waiting for an invitation.”
Soulframe is Digital Extremes’ fantasy sister project to Warframe. Preludes is their pre-alpha label for the live build the community has been shaping for months. Creative Director Geoff Crookes said in the DE post that the closed Preludes crowd got the game far enough that the studio can now refine mounts, combat, and more with a much wider PC audience on the road to a broader public launch.
What you can do right now
Per Digital Extremes’ launch write-up, Envoys head into Midrath to cleanse the soul-torn land of Alca: redeem corrupted Omen Beasts, rescue wildlife, raise an Omen Wolf mount, train Virtues across combat, stealth, and magic, collect weapons and armor, forge Pacts with Ancestors, and party up with as many as four players across the overworld and dungeons. Supporting as a Founder still unlocks special in-game Pacts and equipment if you want to back the project while you play.
What’s still locked behind the gate
The Soulframe FAQ, updated for November 6, keeps the boundaries clear. Preludes stays on the official site for now so the team can iterate quickly - no Steam or Epic storefront yet, though DE says that comes later when it’s ready. Consoles are out for Preludes; those platforms are expected closer to a fuller release. The build is still pre-alpha. DE says it aspires to avoid future wipes and preserve progress, but major changes can still force adjustments, and those would be communicated ahead of time. Streaming and sharing gameplay is explicitly allowed.
PPR take: Warframe proved Digital Extremes can grow a free live game in public for more than a decade. Opening Soulframe the same way - free, no invite, still rough around the edges - is the honest version of “come help us build this.” I’m glad they didn’t wait for a polished Steam page before letting people in. Just know what you’re signing up for: a PC-only pre-alpha on DE’s own launcher, with mounts and combat still being tuned, and no promise that every bit of progress sticks forever. If you’ve been watching from the sidelines, November 6 was the day the door actually opened. Grab an Envoy name and go poke Midrath yourself.
