PPRGaming Daily Roundup title card for November 2, 2026

Hey everyone! A few more stories from Monday that are worth your time, even without a full write-up of their own.

John Romero's shooter that Xbox dropped has a new publisher, but it's a different game now

Romero Games lost its publishing deal with Microsoft earlier this year, and the studio went from 110 people down to five. Speaking to VGC at Gamescom Asia on October 30, the Doom and Quake co-creator said the project now has a new publisher. He can’t name it or say when the game will be announced. The original game won’t be finished, because it was built for a 110-person team. Instead, Romero calls this “a complete redesign of a totally different game” that reuses characters, art, weapons and code the studio fully owns. Ten former leads have been rehired, putting the team at about 15 to 16 people, and Romero says that’s the size it’ll stay. He also says the publisher has “zero creative goals” for the game and is leaving the design to the studio.

Chronicles: Medieval developer Raw Power Games has lost its funding and may close

Danish studio Raw Power Games posted on Steam on Friday that “due to circumstances outside our control, the necessary funding for Raw Power Games is no longer in place,” and that without it, the studio is “at real risk of closing,” as PC Gamer and IGN report. Chronicles: Medieval is an open-world sandbox built around big, authentic medieval battles. It’s been in development for more than four years and was due in Steam early access early in 2027. The studio says early access is “within reach” and that it’s “not going down without a fight.” It hasn’t announced a new investor or publisher, and the game hasn’t been canceled. For now, Raw Power is asking players to keep it wishlisted and keep talking about it.

Selaco's free second chapter, The Machines of War, lands November 13

Altered Orbit Studios’ retro-style shooter Selaco, which is in early access on Steam, gets its second chapter as a free update on November 13. Checkpoint Daily reports that The Machines of War adds 19 campaign maps, which the developer puts at roughly 6 to 8 hours of play. Dawn gets a voice, an ally fights beside you for part of the chapter, and the rebuilt enemy AI now patrols its territory, so you can sneak past fights or pick your moment. There are new drones and small turrets, and Chapter 1 gets a remaster pass with better lighting. One heads-up: existing saves won’t carry over, though Weapon Kit unlocks will. If you’re mid-campaign, you can finish on the older version through Steam’s Betas tab by picking “CHAPTER1”. PC Gamer has more on the new weapons.

PPR take: Two of these are about how fragile funding is right now. Romero’s case is the hopeful version. He owned his IP and assets, so losing a publisher didn’t mean losing years of work, and a small team of leads gets to keep building. Raw Power’s situation is the scary version, with a game close to early access and the money gone almost overnight. I hope someone steps in. Then there’s Selaco doubling in size for free, which is a nice reminder that a small studio can still deliver a lot when it gets the time to do it.
