EA Sports confirms Fight Night is coming back, 15 years after Fight Night Champion

Back in the ring. EA Sports has confirmed its boxing series is returning. “To everyone who stayed in our corner: Fight Night is coming back,” reads the first post from a new @EASPORTSFN account on X, which went up Tuesday at 2 p.m. ET alongside art of red gloves hanging over an empty ring and the line “The fight is never over.”
That’s all we get for now. No platforms, release window, price, roster or developer have been announced. Inven Global reports the account was created on October 13, its bio reads “Back into the ring” and lists the game’s ESRB rating as pending, and the teaser was reposted by the main EA Sports and Electronic Arts accounts.
Why now. The last game was 2011’s Fight Night Champion. Since then EA has put its fighting-sports effort into EA Sports UFC, and VGC says it understands the cost and complexity of licensing top boxers’ likenesses was part of that decision. Both VGC and GamesRadar+ point out that the announcement comes soon after EA’s sale to Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, and Saudi Arabia has become a major force in staging big boxing events. Insider Gaming, which reported in September that EA’s earlier plans for a revival had been canceled about a year ago, says the new ownership left the door open to restarting it. GamesRadar+ notes this is EA’s third big revival of a dormant sports series after College Football and Skate.
PPR take: Fight Night Round 4 and Champion still come up every time someone asks which sports games deserve a comeback, so this one will make a lot of people happy. But a single teaser image with an ESRB rating “pending” is a promise, not a game. Until EA shows platforms, a window and a roster, keep the gloves on the hook.
