A24 is going full blockbuster for the Lands Between. According to a Wall Street Journal report on the studio published October 23, the live-action Elden Ring movie “costs nearly $200 million, according to people familiar with the matter,” as Polygon reports. That makes it A24’s most expensive movie ever, and it isn’t close.

A24’s previous record was 2025’s Marty Supreme at about $70 million, so Elden Ring costs almost three times as much. IGN notes that puts it in the same range as Marvel-sized films like Spider-Man: No Way Home. Earlier reports had pegged the budget at just over $100 million, so either those numbers were off or the cost grew during production.

What we know so far: Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Annihilation, Civil War) is directing. The cast includes Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Nick Offerman and Havana Rose Liu. Filming wrapped in July, and the movie is still set for theaters on March 3, 2028. There’s no trailer or official footage yet, and the plot is still under wraps.

GamesRadar+ points out it’s a big swing for a studio known for smaller, stranger films. A24 hasn’t commented on the number.

PPR take: Garland plus a real budget is the best-case setup for a FromSoftware adaptation. The hard part was never money, though. It’s turning a story told through item descriptions into two hours of film. We’ll see in 2028.
