The Elder Scrolls VI is reportedly called Sentinel, and the name could be revealed next month

Eight years after that teaser, a name. According to The Verge’s Tom Warren, Bethesda is about to announce that the next Elder Scrolls game will officially be called The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. Warren says the announcement “could come as soon as next month,” during the stretch that marks 15 years since The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim came out.

This is a report, not an announcement. Bethesda and Xbox haven’t confirmed the name, and Warren cites “sources familiar with Bethesda’s plans.”

What to expect from the reveal: Not much beyond the title. Warren writes that he’s “only expecting a name reveal next month and nothing more.” No release date, window or platforms have been announced.

It’s being played, at least internally. Warren reports that Bethesda has been showing off Sentinel gameplay in recent months, and that Xbox CEO Asha Sharma got a live playthrough in August, praising the scale of the game and saying “the story is even greater.” As Gematsu points out, Sharma teased the subtitle back then with eight asterisks, the same number of letters as “Sentinel,” and fans had already landed on the name before this report, GameSpot notes.

Where it’s reportedly set: Warren also says Sentinel takes place in Hammerfell, a province that’s shown up before in The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard and The Elder Scrolls Online. VGC notes that the setting isn’t expected to be revealed alongside the title. The Verge’s piece includes some reported story details too; we’ve left those out here so nothing gets spoiled.

PPR take: If the timing holds, Skyrim’s birthday on November 11 lands just eight days before GTA 6. A title card won’t compete with that, but after this long, even just a name would be a nice reminder that this game is real.
