GTA 6 has an estimated 6.45 million digital pre-orders worth $630 million, four weeks before launch

Six and a half million and counting. Grand Theft Auto VI has an estimated 6.45 million digital pre-orders worldwide, worth about $630 million net of returns, according to the latest weekly update to Sensor Tower’s GTA VI sales tracker. The snapshot runs to October 18, a month before the game’s November 19 launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
PlayStation is carrying it. Sony’s platform accounts for roughly 4.80 million copies and $468 million, or 74% of the total, while Xbox sits at about 1.66 million copies and $162 million, as broken down by TechPowerUp. The October 13 snapshot had the game at about 6.08 million pre-orders and $594 million, so roughly 370,000 more people locked in a copy in under a week. TweakTown points to the recent launch trailer as a likely driver. In the US, Sensor Tower says digital pre-orders are running 148% ahead of 2022’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 at the same point before release, the best of any big launch it has tracked in six years.
Read the fine print. These are third-party estimates, not sales reports. They count digital pre-orders only, so physical boxes (which for GTA VI hold a download code rather than a disc) aren’t included, and the revenue is what buyers paid before Sony and Microsoft take their cut. GTA Intel also notes that Sensor Tower tweaked its estimation model on October 5, so older numbers aren’t a perfect comparison. Take-Two hasn’t published a pre-order figure, though CEO Strauss Zelnick has called demand “unprecedented and astonishing” and said buyers are skewing toward the $100 Ultimate Edition. The next chance for an official number is Take-Two’s second-quarter earnings on November 9, its last call before launch.
PPR take: Nobody expected GTA VI to struggle, but $630 million before a single copy has unlocked is still a staggering number, and it’s only the digital slice. The more interesting figure is that 74/26 split: it says a lot about where console players are right now, and it’s a big reason Sony is happy to keep the marketing deal. Expect this tracker to cross 7 million well before November 19.
