Marvel's Wolverine was September's best-selling game in the US, and PS5 hardware sales jumped 43%

Mixed reviews, big sales. Insomniac’s Marvel’s Wolverine was the best-selling game in the US in September by dollar sales, according to Circana’s latest chart, as reported by VGC. Circana’s Mat Piscatella said it posted the highest launch-month dollar sales for a Sony-published game since Helldivers 2 in February 2024, and it’s already 2026’s 11th best-selling game in the US.
The rest of the picture:
- PS5 hardware: dollar sales were up 43% from September 2025, giving Sony its best hardware dollar share in a month since May 2025, per GamesBeat.
- A crowded month: eight of the top 10 were new. NBA 2K27 came in second, followed by EA Sports FC 27, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, The Blood of Dawnwalker, Wardogs, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Halloween: The Game, Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve and Madden NFL 27.
- Overall spending: total US spending on games, hardware and accessories slipped 1% to about $4.8 billion. Hardware rose 12% and accessories 10%, while game content fell 2%.
Circana’s September covers August 30 through October 3. As GameSpot put it, the sales tell a different story than the game’s mixed reception online. GamesBeat’s own review knocked its linear design and repetitive combat.
PPR take: Loud complaints online and sales don’t always match. A PS5 exclusive topping a month this packed, weeks before GTA 6, is a strong result for Sony.
