MrBeast drops 'Escape from DMZ' today, a giant Call of Duty video timed to Modern Warfare 4's DMZ early access

MrBeast is going back to where he started. Yesterday he posted on X: “I started on YouTube making COD videos and tomorrow I’m dropping one of the biggest COD videos of all time to celebrate the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4! IM SO EXCITED!” That post has passed 2.3 million views, and the video is due on his channel today, October 19.

What we know about it. GameSpot reports that a title screen in the teaser reads “Escape from DMZ,” so it looks like a real-life version of Modern Warfare 4’s extraction mode. Other creators in the video have started posting their own teasers, and one of them, SnowBikeMike, billed it as “Call of Duty x Mr. Beast x 19 Incredible Creators and ME.” GameRiv notes the announcement didn’t spell out the challenges or the full cast, so the exact format is still a surprise until it goes live.

The timing isn’t an accident. The video lands one day before DMZ Early Access opens on Tuesday, October 20 for anyone who digitally pre-purchased the Standard Digital or Vault Edition, per Activision’s DMZ FOB Intel Guide. The full game, with multiplayer, launches Friday, October 23 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. We covered the campaign’s early access window here.

Quick DMZ refresher. DMZ is Call of Duty’s extraction mode: you drop into the Hajin zone solo or with a squad, fight AI forces and rival players, loot and craft gear, and try to get out alive with what you found. Between runs you build up a Forward Operating Base with more than a dozen stations, as the PlayStation Blog explains.

PPR take: A creator with over 500 million subscribers making a COD video the day before DMZ opens is about the biggest marketing push a game mode can get. Whether the mode holds onto those players once GTA VI arrives on November 19 is the real test.
