Phantom Blade Zero sells over 4 million copies in its first 72 hours

Phantom Blade Zero’s launch just got a lot bigger. S-Game says its wuxia action RPG has sold more than 4 million copies in its first 72 hours, as Gematsu reports. The studio celebrated on X with a short thank-you to players. The game launched digitally on PS5 and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store) on October 29, and that 4 million figure covers both platforms. It isn’t on Xbox.
The numbers so far
When we covered launch day, Phantom Blade Zero had just passed 600,000 concurrent players on Steam. It kept climbing over the weekend. According to GameSpot, it hit a record 833,921 peak concurrent players on Steam on November 1, and that’s before you count anyone playing on PS5, since Sony doesn’t share player counts. GameSpot also notes most pre-orders came from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, which makes sense for a Beijing studio’s game with this much buzz at home.
Polygon calls it one of 2026’s best-selling games already, and says the concurrent peak puts it behind only Palworld among this year’s single-player games on Steam. For scale, Polygon points out that Black Myth: Wukong, the obvious comparison, sold 10 million in its opening weekend, so this isn’t a Wukong-sized debut. It’s still a huge one.
The reviews helped. Our reviews roundup had it at 88 on Metacritic and 91 on OpenCritic, and the combat was the big talking point. RPG Site lists the game at $59.99 for the Standard Edition and $69.99 for the Deluxe Edition, and a PS5 physical release is still planned for 2027.
PPR take: I love seeing a studio’s first big console and PC game land like this. As Insider Gaming points out, this is S-Game’s first major release outside mobile, and that’s a big jump to make on your first try. Four million in three days answers that. The comparison to Wukong is going to come up all week, but I don’t think it’s the right yardstick. Wukong was a once-in-a-generation launch, and this is a new IP with no Journey to the West name behind it. The real story is that action fans clearly wanted a great-looking game built around flashy martial arts combat, and they showed up for it on day one. If S-Game keeps the patches coming and the PS5 physical edition lands in 2027, this could keep selling for a long time.
