S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2's Zone Lookout update is out: you can finally see A-Life NPCs much farther away, and squad leaders now offer fast travel

The Zone just got a lot bigger, at least to your eyes. GSC Game World released Update 2.1, “The Zone Lookout,” for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl today on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, Gematsu reports. On consoles it shows up as update 1.025.
See A-Life from farther away. The headline feature is a new setting that lets you raise how far away A-Life NPCs, the roaming stalkers and mutants that make the Zone feel alive, are drawn. You’ll find it under Settings, Game, Visualisation options, with a set of presets plus a Dynamic option that scales the range to what your PC or console can handle. GSC’s own announcement recommends sticking with the default for stability and warns higher presets can hurt performance. The bigger range mainly applies to A-Life NPCs, not quest characters, and how many presets you get depends on your hardware.
Longer fights, better binoculars. GSC retuned long-range gunfights and weapon ballistics so distant fights feel natural, and you’ll now hear firefights break out much farther away. Binoculars were updated to identify targets at the new distances.
Fast travel with squad leaders. Friendly or neutral squad leaders are now marked on your compass, and you can pay them to guide you to nearby destinations on their route. The catch: only places you’ve already explored, you can’t be overloaded, and as GSC puts it, “don’t expect a guy from Zalissya to take you all the way to Prypiat.”
The fix list is long. MP1st has the full patch notes. Highlights include fixes for mass NPC and mutant spawns at Rostok, excess mercenary spawns at Duga, NPCs aiming the wrong way or getting stuck mid-air and in campfires, and several PS5 bugs where key characters like Varan, Squint, Sava and Scar’s squad went missing in missions after the 2.0 patch. There are also performance fixes at the Perimeter Dam and a fix for gamepads on handheld PCs and Steam Machine.
PPR take: The short A-Life draw distance has been one of the most common complaints since launch, so letting players push it out is a big deal, and GSC says this update was planned around player feedback. If you’re on PS5 and got stuck on a mission because an NPC vanished after 2.0, it’s worth jumping back in.
