Marvel Rivals is turning Avengers: Endgame's final battle into a 50-player PvE mode against a giant Thanos on October 24

Avengers, assemble. All fifty of you. NetEase today revealed Path to Doomsday - Avengers: Endgame, a new PvE mode for Marvel Rivals that drops 50 players into the ruins of the Avengers Compound to take on Thanos and his army at once. It arrives October 24 UTC, which is the evening of October 23 for players in the Americas, according to the official trailer. Polygon says it’s part of the game’s Season 10.5 update.
The trailer loosely recreates the film’s final battle. This version of Thanos is Giant-Man-sized, and he swings a huge dual-bladed sword that can instantly kill heroes. He can also call down an aerial strike from his ship that wipes out whole crowds of players at once. Kotaku calls him essentially a raid boss, and says winning plays a scene of Tony Stark snapping him away with the Infinity Gauntlet.
The event adds a few extras:
- A free Captain America costume based on Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) for taking part
- Thanos-themed accessories, sprays and other rewards
- Interactive activities in the game’s Times Square hub
Polygon points out that this builds on things Rivals already does: a four-player zombie PvE mode, a chaotic 18-versus-18 mode, and a Times Square hub that holds up to 100 players. Season 10 also brought an earlier Path to Doomsday mode based on Infinity War. It’s all building up to Avengers: Doomsday, which hits theaters on December 18.
PPR take: Fifty heroes against one raid boss sounds more like Dynasty Warriors than a hero shooter, and that’s the appeal. Marvel Rivals is free on PC, PlayStation and Xbox, so it’s an easy one to jump into with friends this weekend.
