Star Vault is already deep into the second Era of Refinement patch for Mortal Online 2. The studio’s Into the Vault #163 development update lays out the biggest items it’s working on, with a PTR currently scheduled for November 18. Star Vault warns that some items might not make the PTR or the release.

The Aggressive flag

The headline change replaces the Criminal Actions toggle with an Aggressive flag. You’ll have to turn it on before you can attack Blue players or commit criminal actions, and while it’s on, anyone can legally attack you, even if you haven’t committed a crime yet. Star Vault is clear that this is not a PvP toggle: you can still be attacked at any time.

  • It turns on after a 3-second delay and takes 30 seconds to turn off, and getting hit during that window resets the timer. Star Vault says these timers may change a lot.
  • While flagged, you show up as “local grey” with a new flag icon and name color, and you can be legally looted if you die.

Customizable houses, strongholds and keeps

You’ll be able to swap individual house components, including outer walls, beams, inner walls, flooring, ceiling, roof and front door. Basic versions come from town vendors, while common to very rare components drop as loot, including looks that match places like Morin Khur and Tindrem. The same system covers strongholds, keeps and keep walls.

New spells

New utility spells include Breath of Efficiency (faster mining and woodcutting), Amplified Attunement, Levity, Aquatic Attraction, Beast of Burden and Flare. On the combat side there’s Blood Sacrifice, Mana Shield, Repelling Ward and Relinquish Undead.

Other big items

  • A new Hunting Prowess Action skill takes over the creature damage and defense bonus from the Zoology Lore skills.
  • Concentration is reworked: getting hit while channeling now lowers Spell Power instead of risking a cancelled spell, with a 40% floor.
  • An “anti-zerg” mechanic reduces damage from extra hits landing within the same second as the first.
  • A Lasting Respite buff from sitting near a campfire, a Town Crier NPC that warns of nearby criminals, guild heraldry banners, an emote wheel, more rare loot, reworked Clade Gifts and the return of Tagmaton Invasions.
  • Quality-of-life changes include always being able to walk slowly while encumbered, Intelligence no longer affecting book reading speed, and hitching posts in busy towns.

CEO Henrik Nyström will show off more of the patch in a Twitch stream on November 11, a week before the PTR. As MMORPG.com notes, Star Vault is also asking players to share feedback through a survey linked in the post.

PPR take: The Aggressive flag and the house customization are the two I’d keep an eye on. Both could change how a lot of people play once they hit the PTR.
