Stranger Than Heaven's first story trailer sends Makoto Daito to 1915 Kokura

RGG Studio, the team behind Like a Dragon, has released the first story trailer for Stranger Than Heaven, and it starts the game’s 50-year saga at the very beginning.
The Act 1: Kokura trailer is the first in a series of videos covering five eras and five cities between 1915 and 1965. According to SEGA’s announcement, it follows Makoto Daito as he flees persecution in the United States, stows away on the ship of a merchant named Orpheus, and lands in the booming steel town of Kokura, Fukuoka. There he meets fellow stowaway Yu Shinjo, runs into the same discrimination he faced in America, and takes his first steps toward becoming a showman.
Who you meet in Kokura:
- Makoto Daito (Yu Shirota), who repays the kindness of a local boss by working as one of his underlings
- Yu Shinjo (Dean Fujioka), a fellow stowaway who survives on his wits
- Orpheus (Snoop Dogg), the merchant whose ship they sneak aboard, who tracks them down with “other motives in mind”
- Heigo Yashima (Akio Otsuka), boss of the Kuroganecho district, who takes Daito and Shinjo in
- Tae Matsumoto (Moeka Hoshi), a café waitress who welcomes Daito
- Tadashi Hataoka (Takashi Ukaji), a militant underling of Yashima’s rival, who keeps a close eye on Daito’s rise
SEGA says more trailers covering Daito’s life across Japan are on the way. Gematsu has the trailer embedded if YouTube isn’t your thing.
Release: Stranger Than Heaven launches January 15, 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass and PC. Pre-orders are open and include the exclusive Dosu: Kagekiri DLC weapon.
PPR take: A period crime drama spread across five decades is a big step out of Kamurocho for RGG. If each era gets a trailer this focused, January can’t come soon enough.
