It’s not 4.11 anymore. It’s FIVE-point-oh. Cloud Imperium has officially renamed Alpha 4.11 to Alpha 5.0. RSI announced it on X at 3:46 PM ET today, a few minutes after Nicou-CIG posted the November 4 Roadmap Roundup on Spectrum. CIG says the new number reflects “the significance of the new technologies and features coming together in this release.” In RSI’s words, it’s the first time its Genesis technologies come together, “forming the foundation for how planets are built and explored going forward.”

The Release View now lists Alpha 5.0 for Q4 2026. CIG hasn’t given a specific date, and no 5.0 PTU has been announced yet.

What’s actually in 5.0

The Roundup calls Genesis CIG’s “initiative to transform how we create, populate, and bring planetary environments to life.” Here’s how CIG describes the pieces, all marked Committed on the Release View:

  • Starchitect: a procedural world-building system that uses Genesis data to spread sectors, clusters and locations across a planet and build them from modular tiles. It comes with a Starchitect Mission Pack, sandbox missions “designed to keep players planetside for longer,” and Starchitect POIs, faction-owned ground locations with procedurally generated building layouts.
  • Planet Tech V5: “a complete rework of how planets are built, populated, and rendered.” That covers emergent biomes driven by physical properties, plants and rocks scattered by how they’d naturally grow, reworked terrain shading for sand, dirt, rock and snow, and generation moved to the GPU for denser environments with better performance.
  • Population Manager: load-balances server populations and fills areas with inhabitants that suit their surroundings, laying groundwork for more dynamic interactions between them.
  • Contract Boards: new to the roadmap today, and straight in as Committed. Guild Halls at regional hubs let you browse contracts, complete them and build reputation with different guilds. Boards offer faction and guild missions at local, regional, global and solar-system levels, with a brand-new interface and faction filtering. CIG ties it to its “Hub and Spoke” gameplay vision.
  • DGS Planet Subdivision: splits planets and moons into smaller, dynamically assigned server territories, so one server never has to run an entire planetary body.

Nyx I goes first, and Nyx II and III wait

Nyx I is the first planet to get all of this. CIG describes it as a coreless planet closest to Nyx’s sun, once thought impossible to terraform, now home to “a robust ecosphere.” The Roundup says the plan is to bring these technologies to Nyx II, Nyx III, “and other existing locations and planets throughout the ‘verse.” Evocati testers already got a taste in October’s Nyx I tech preview, which split one planet across three servers for the first time.

The trade-off: Nyx II and Nyx III, previously aimed at this release, are now tentatively scheduled for Alpha 5.1, which the Release View lists for Q1 2027.

The rest of today’s Roadmap moves

  • Lightning Bolt Co. “Skarnov” DMR moves up from 5.0 into 4.10.3 as Committed. It’s already in the 4.10.3 PTU.
  • S3 & S10 Bomb Racks were added as Committed, and the Kastak Arms “Hellion” pistol and “Verdict” LMG flipped to Committed.
  • A Loot Refresh, which brings previously Wikelo-exclusive rewards into the loot pool, and a Vehicle Combat Balance Pass focused on fighter combat and energy vs. ballistic balance were both added as Tentative.
  • Item Recovery: Ship Loadout Improvements “requires additional work” and has been pulled from the Release View for now. That matches what we heard last month.

The 5.0 column also still lists the “Monolith” heavy armor, the ASD “Model-K2” DMR and a Wikelo Tiburon reward. Over in the Spectrum thread, backers are already asking whether 5.0 comes with a wipe. No CIG staff had answered that when we published, so treat any wipe talk as unconfirmed for now.

In the meantime, 4.10.3 is still on the PTU with IAE 2956 testing going on, and today’s RSI Launcher 2.19.1 update means the shader cache can build before you load in.

PPR take: Look…I’ve been backing this game a LONG time, and I’ve seen “Planet Tech” and “Genesis” on slides for years. Seeing CIG put a whole new major version number on it tells me they think this is the real deal, and honestly, so do I. 4.0 was the patch that finally gave us server meshing and Pyro. 5.0 looks like the one that changes what being ON a planet means. Procedural POIs that actually belong to factions, Guild Halls you can work out of, biomes that make physical sense, and a planet split across servers so it can handle real crowds. That’s the stuff that turns the ‘verse from a bunch of pretty rocks into actual places. And Contract Boards jumping straight to Committed? That’s the hub-and-spoke loop I’ve been waiting for. I’m a little bummed Nyx II and III slid to 5.1, but I’d rather get one planet done RIGHT than three half-baked ones. Now the fair part: Committed isn’t live, and I want to see this hold up on PTU with real player counts before I start celebrating. But man…this is friggen awesome. Nyx I, I’m coming for you. o7
